KES Bike Bus - September 8th

Kingsolver Bike Bus Guidelines:

1. Point of Contact: Ms. Robin Beard, robin.beard@dodea.edu or 502-924-3085.
2. Students are required to have appropriate equipment to participate in the Bike Bus. This includes a well-maintained, functional bicycle, and a properly fitted helmet. Unfortunately, those who do not meet these equipment standards will not be able to participate in the Bike Bus, as this is a Fort Knox Garrison requirement with no exceptions.
3. Students participating must have experience of being able to comfortably ride a bike. 
4. Students may not have any office discipline referrals to participate in the Bike Bus.
5. Students must be in 3^rd, 4^th or 5^th grade to participate in the Bike Bus without a parent. These students are welcome to ride with us at any point during the route starting from the Community Superintendent Office (128 McCracken St). This is a 2-mile route. Bikes with training wheels are required to start at Brooks Field regardless of grade level.
6. Pre-K through 2^nd grade MUST have a parent to participate with them. These students are welcome to join the Bike Bus starting from the Brooks Field parking lot (First Calvary Regiment Rd side).  Brooks Field to Kingsolver parking lot is a .75 mile route.
7. The Bike Bus will serve as the transportation option for students to ride to school only. This service will not be available for returning home. Students in grades 3, 4 and 5 have the option to ride their bikes home independently. Parents may retrieve their students at the end of the day to accompany them home or have their students take their normal transportation home and later retrieve their bikes.  Please note that the school will not be responsible for bicycles left on campus.
8. Students who would like to join the Bike Bus but do not live on the route are welcome to ride over to the CSO at 128 McCracken St or Brooks Field parking lot at the corner of Spearhead Division Rd and First Calvery Regiment Rd, where they will be able to join. Starting point will be based on grade level.
9. For safety reasons, pets are not permitted during the ride. This policy aims to prevent potential injuries to both pets and cyclists. 
10. First Aide Kits will be available during the ride for minor incidents if necessary. 
11. Should students have a bike maintenance issue they will be expected to walk their bike the remainder of the route to school, and a staff member will remain with them.
12. No motorized bikes, hoverboards, electronic motorized vehicles, or scooters are allowed.
13. Students must eat breakfast before coming to school. They will not have time to eat breakfast in the cafeteria upon arrival at the school.
14.  WEATHER- Weather cancelations will be communicated by 6:45 Tuesday morning via email. We will only communicate cancelations, if you do not hear anything it’s a go!!!

BIKE BUS PROCEDURE

• The Bike Bus will leave the Community Superintendent Office (128 McCracken St.) promptly at 8:00. 
• All participants must be at the starting point or waiting along the Bike Bus route (depending on grade level) ready to join in (helmets on, standing on or next to bike). Students younger than grade 2 or who are using training wheels, cannot join the route prior to Brooks Field.
• The Bike Bus will pass by each “stop” and students are expected to join as the group passes (map attached).
• The Bike Bus will ONLY stop at Brook’s Field for a few minutes to gather our group and then begin the last portion of our ride. This is where younger students will be able to join our bike bus.
• Students MUST always remain behind the lead staff member during the ride. Failure to do so will result in that student no longer being able to participate in the Bike Bus. 
• Bikes will be parked in the field when we get to the building.
